The Soft White Loaf from Promise is a really nice gluten-free bread. I find it a nice change from other gluten-free breads like teff bread. I give it a 4/5 rating.
It’s a compact loaf of thinly sliced bread, in a plastic tray that is wrapped in cellophane-like plastic. I would give it a 5/5 rating except for the packaging, which is annoying. I’m not sure why the loaf is in a tray. The plastic wrap is stiff and brittle, and I’ve torn two of them so far trying to close them up. I wish they would change their packaging to be more like a “normal” bread bag. You can try sliding the tray out and taking the bread out of that, but it’s a tight fit.
Like most gluten-free bread, it doesn’t toast much in the toaster.
True to its name, the bread is soft, although the crust is a little heavier than you might expect from “normal” white bread. The crust is still softer than, say, teff bread. The bread tastes just fine and has a nice texture.
This bread is great in a grilled cheese sandwich – it toasts up nicely and has great texture.
If it wasn’t for the packaging, I would give it a 5/5 rating.
